Renie Hill Phillips

Savannah- Mrs. Robert P. Phillips, Jr. Renie Hill Phillips, 84 years old, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 after a long illness. She spent her last days at Hospice Savannah where she was lovingly attended by the staff. Mrs. Phillips was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 60 years, the late Bob Phillips and by her grandson Creighton Hill Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was originally from Sylvania, Georgia. She moved to Savannah to attend nursing school at the old Candler Hospital. She was an honor student but married Bob before getting her degree. Later Mrs. Phillips went to work at the old Borden's Dairy as a quality control inspector, then worked as an entomologist with the Department of Agriculture. She moved on to the US Customs Office where she worked for a number of years. Later she became a cosmetologist and opened her own salon, The Ladies' Room, in the Windsor Forrest area.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her three children, Bobby Sheila Phillips, Paul Debbie Phillips and Sharon Cook. Mrs. Phillips also leaves seven grandchildren, Chris Phillips, Boone Phillips, Stayce Kinard, Samantha Phillips, Jamie Phillips, Peter Baines and Allison Mol; and ten great-grand children. She is also survived by her loving former daughter-in-law Dianna Phillips and relatives from Sylvania, including the Hill family, her brother Perry, his kids Betty and Tommy; her late brother Wilson's children Wynelle and Hulen, and her late brother Robert's children Bobby, David, Mary and Mike.
Mrs. Phillips was a lifelong church goer and was active in the startups of Memorial Baptist Church and Windsor Forrest Baptist Church. She and her husband Bob were very active in the Bull Street Baptist Church for many years and she particularly enjoyed the Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Phillips also enjoyed crafts, square dancing, cooking and her many grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Mausoleum.
